Often parents will react badly which doesn’t help their teen lose weight because the problem is probably the result of over eating the wrong foods and little exercise for many years so it is not going to be cured in a matter of days. A parent should contact their doctor in addition to researching the subject for information specifically relating to teen weight loss programs that are proven methods, before spending large sums on diet plans that will not work and just disillusion your child.
Care is required as some teen weight loss programs (and adult for that matter) can actually be harmful especially as they have not yet finished growing. Starvation type diets may reduce weight but they can also seriously reduce body tissue, such as muscle, that is essential for the wellbeing of the child. A parent needs to look at ways of reducing body fat of their child but at the same time not increasing the problems associated with some of the weight loss programs that promise this quickly.
